What is Pagerank And How To Increase Pagerank

by samiemathews82 on February 1, 2010

Pagerank or page rank, is an algorithm used by Google to determine the “importance” of a page.

The ranking system starts at 0, for pages with the least importance, and 10 for pages with the most importance.

An example of a PR 10 site would be Google itself, while an example of a PR 0 site, would be a newly created blog, webpage etc.

Page rank is usually updated on a quarterly basis, provided that Google is not behind.

As your PR starts to increase, the difficulty in attaining the next level of PR will also increase dramatically. In essence, high PR sites have more value than low PR sites.

How to increase PR?

Increasing PR takes into account a number of factors. One of the main factors is inbound links to the page. The more inbound links your page has, the higher the chances of increasing PR.

Getting inbound links from high PR sites, gives a level of importance to your site. It would be to your benefit to obtain inbound links from a variety of sites including high PR sites.

*Please note that this is a simplified version of how the page rank system works. There are several things to consider when starting a link-building campaign.
