As you may have noticed, the underlying theme of most of my posts is traffic.
Why? Because without targeted website traffic, your website will go no where. This is true regardless of whether you are trying to sell something or if you are simply trying to provide your viewers with valuable information.
Some of you may be trying to improve your website traffic by using SEO. One gripe that I have concerning SEO, is that it takes time.
If you do all of your research and plan accordingly, you should start to see results within weeks if not months. If you don’t want to get discouraged, make sure that you plan ahead.
Here are some factors that you should consider to help you improve your website rank in Google and the major search engines:
Keyword research:
This is quite possibly the most important part of the process. What you want to do is find keywords that are highly targeted, low in competition, and high search volumes.
Some keywords are relatively easy to rank for but have low search volumes. Plan accordingly, your time is valuable.
Analyze the top ten and your competition:
After you have found a potential keyword, what you want to do now is study your competition.
I recommend that you start by doing a phrase search of your potential keyword. This will reveal the amount of sites that are optimized for the potential keyword.
You are looking for terms that return 100k or less results in a phrase search ( a search in quotes)
Once you have narrowed down your search, it’s time to pick the winners.
This step will make or break your SEO campaign so make sure you follow through.
Grab the keywords that passed the above criteria, and look at the top ten broad results for each term ( a broad search is a search with no quotes)
What you are looking for, are poorly optimized websites that you can easily outrank.
When analyzing the top ten websites for your potential keyword keep these factors in mind:
Page rank – the lower the page rank the better
Domain age – Avoid keywords that have websites with high domain age in the top ten
links – both links to the page and to the domain will affect your results
on page elements – using market samurai or a similar program, check for how well the top ten websites are optimized for your desired keyword.
on page elements to look for include:
- keyword in the url
- keyword in header tags
- keyword in the title
- and keyword in the description
Link building:
At this stage in the game, you should have a good keyword that will be relatively easy to rank. You now must start placing all of your efforts on link building. But before you do that, make sure that your on page elements are in place (see the numbered bullet points above).
Potential link building places include:
Article Directories
Forum Posts
Blog commenting
In context links
Directory submissions
and many more.
When starting a link building campaign, you are really looking to accomplish two things. You want to have more links than your competitors, and you want to show Google and the search engines that your site is more relevant than the competition for the term you are trying to rank for.
One way to do this, is by using Market Samurai once again, but this time to check where all your competitors are getting their backlinks from. Once you find this out, you can start to build links from the same places, and you can also start to build your own back-links.
If you spend proper time doing research and planning, it is only a matter of time before you start to see your search engine ranking improve.
Performing the above tasks by hand can be very tedious and time consuming. I recommend that you look at using Market Samurai to perform all of the tasks mentioned in this post.
If you go right now, you can get yourself a free copy of the software.

As far as link building is concerned, you might want to look at some affordable link building services to complement your own efforts.
Here is a service I found that builds back-links using Senuke, Seolinkvine, Article Blueprint, and Magic article submitter for 47 dollars.
