Putting The Youngsters To Participate In The Household Profession

If you own your own business, putting your children to work in the family business makes a lot of sense. Not only are children not apart of some of the tax and labor laws when working for a family owned endeavor in many places, but giving the kids a sense of ownership can take them far when the family endeavor passes to their hands some day.

Keep in mind your child's age as you begin to employ them in the family company. Even young children can participate in simple tasks such as copying files. As they mature, children can organize papers, file, help prepare shipments, keep track of credit, send faxes and more.

Be patient as they learn and explain tasks clearly. You understand your child better than anyone, so take into account whether she or he can follow multiple directions at one time, or if one task assigned at a time is a better fit. If your child can read well, have that child handle more complicated jobs and leave the simpler tasks to a younger child.

While hiring your children could ultimately save you money, make sure you pay them a reasonable wage for the work they do. Encourage your kids to save some of what they make and give some of what they earn to a charity. But let them have at least some of the money they've worked for to spend however they choose. This gives kids a stronger desire to work and a lesser desire to live off of credit. Everyone needs rewards, but children especially have a want for at least some instant gratification.

Be patient and realize that kids are still kids. There might be days when you have a deadline to meet and the child just wants to play. Or there may be days when you just can't get your kids to focus. On those days, do your best to make them realize the task at hand and that there is a job to be done first. After the job is finished, take time to play, and relax and enjoy your children. They need to know you're a mom or dad first, and the boss second.

Utilize work time to teach your kids the joy of earning an income, and the responsibility and methods of managing money. Also, assist them in becoming dependable employees, develop a strong work ethic, and understand the value of a job done right.

Putting your kids to work in the family business can help you, as a sole owner, get help you need to complete important tasks. But, it will also give your children a taste of the workplace and help them understand the value of money management. This way when they mature, they will stay away from debt and credit problems. This is a much easier lesson to ascertain when money is earned rather than given.
